The traffic and the rain have made it impossible for me to brave the traffic during office hours to swim or workout. I did the Blogilates and P90X workout a few times but wanted company to feel more motivated and inspired. I started checking classes close to home that would offer Pilates, barre, Zumba and core strengthening workouts.
Located just a few hundred metered from my house in a basement was an academy called ‘soul to sole’. Founded by contemporary dancer and fitness instructor Sanaa Vidyalankar, Soul to Sole embodies the philosophy that fitness doesn’t have to be drag and boring but can be made fun and addictive. Sanaa is a commerce grad from SRCC, a professional dancer, choreographer and fitness instructor. Her work has taken her to counties like Germany, Poland. Morocco and of course destinations in india. She has 6 instructors and offers Pilates, Zumba. PIYO, Desi Jam Bollywood Cardio and Totally Toned Personal Training.
The greater Kailash studio is a safe place for women to come in, meet new people and exercise with people constantly motivating you to do your best.
I decided to try the Zumba the first day and went in at 7 pm. The class was packed and everyone had their spaces. The music was upbeat and Sanaa was very enthusiastic with a lot of energy as she performed most moves with us. We worked out to a few popular songs that got us wanting to break out in dance but we were instructed to follow the steps and keep going. Halfway through the class, we were drenched in sweat and needed to refuel and rehydrate. I loved the fast paced class as it was a gruelling workout but realised that I would’ve benefitted had I eaten a snack beforehand. I don’t recommend that you drink anything heavy but eat a banana or an apple prior to class because you’ll need all the energy you can muster up. We cooled down with a stretching sequence from Ellie Goulding’s love me like you do. For those of you trying to lose weight and those that are looking for an intensive one hour workout- Zumba is the best class for me because it’s vigorous and a huge calorie burner and fat torches. Besides who wouldn’t want to lose weight while you are sweating it out on the dance floor and you might learn some new moves in the process too that you can show off to girlfriends about over the weekend.
I joined my girlfriends for the Pilates class at 7 pm on Tuesday. Unlike most other classes, mats are already provided to you and you don’t need to bring your own. The class begins with 10-15 minutes of a cardio warm up to get the heart pumping and blood flowing. Post the warm up, Sanaa teaches you about the neutral spine, spine alignment, plank and the 100’s. She successfully manages to tackle the core, hamstrings, glutes, legs and arms in exercises that improve posture and allow you to tone and strengthen each body part. Unlike weight training, Pilates allows you to lengthen each muscle in your body and strengthen it by keeping your core stable and strong. I absolutely loved doing this class and would come back to child’s pose everyone I needed a break. I’m normally someone who would prefer the reformer over mat classes but I really enjoyed Sanaa & Julia’s classes and can’t wait to join for a month. I look forward to a stronger core, better flexibility and less pain and stiffness in my back with a regular practice.
I highly recommend this studio if you are looking for a fun and safe space to work out with experienced instructors and regular attendees who will keep you motivated. What’s more is that each class is about 400/- so you can fit fitter and more flexible without burning a whole in your pocket.

Loved your blog / site . Very insightful. I was wondering if you are into nutrition counseling as well ? I really ( desperately ) need to drop weight and just loved your thoughts ( as well as the diet you are following yourself ).
Thanks a bunch , Mandakini
