Body hair can be unsightly and more often than not- painful to remove. While some people stick to the conventional methods of waxing, threading and shaving- laser hair removal has become a more popular albeit expensive proposition. Unlike waxing which requires maintenance and regular upkeep, all you need is 6-8 sessions of the laser on a particular body part and you don’t have to worry about it for a while. The conventional methods of hair removal can leave you with unsightly scars, ingrowths and red bumpy marks- lest we forget infections. However, the laser beam targets the pigment in hair follicles and leads to a gradual reduction of hair with subsequent sessions.
I went to the Mantra Spa, owned by Baidyanath to try the USFDA approved ‘Vikini Laser’ on my face as I had heard people sing praises of the efficacy, results and how painless it was.
I have always been very apprehensive of machines and tools near my face- especially the laser because I have this fear of getting burnt or marks on my skin that won’t fade. Dr Indu Ballani sat with me for a consultation and went over all my questions and allayed my fears of any damage or scarring. She was very honest and told me that it would need regular upkeep and would take about 6 sessions a month apart each to see results.
I was pretty impressed with the facilities and the system at Mantra Spa. Booking an appointment was relatively easy and I wouldn’t have to wait very long for my turn when I arrived at the spa. Dr Indu Ballani made sure that her team was careful and briefed before each session and the treatment was carried pretty painlessly. I would slather on some sunscreen and walk out with a hat a few minutes later and I would go back every month for 6 months for sessions. I am pretty happy with the results and only need to go in twice a year for regular upkeep.
The Mantra Spa has a USFDA approved high-speed diode laser system for permanent hair removal that can be used all over the body. Most commonly used for the underarms, face and the bikini; men, too, have started coming to Mantra Spa and using laser as a more permanent grooming solution. The machine is extremely effective and virtually painless. This state of the art technology is perfectly safe and can be used on fine, dark and coarse hair. You should expect a little burning and heat during the treatment and the area but it subsides post the treatment. The procedures last between 5 and 15 minutes depending on the area being covered and how coarse the hair is.
Also available at Mantra Spa are anti ageing facials, tummy tucks, botox, anti acne treatments and rejuvenation facials to name a few.
Tips-
Avoid swimming or direct sunlight and protect your skin with a heavy duty sunscreen of at least SPF 40.
Don’t apply any make up or harsh toners or astringents on the skin as it might get irritated or bumpy.
Call the Spa if you notice any burning or unusual stinging hours after the treatment.
Avoid getting that area bleached, waxed or shaved between results to ensure efficacy of the treatment.
Apply ice cubes onto the affected area post the treatment to cool the skin and prevent redness or stinging.
Verdict-
It is expensive but definitely worth it if you want to avoid the weekly/monthly waxing appointments that hurt like hell. The hair becomes less coarse with subsequent sessions and the growth becomes less noticeable after a few sessions and the treatment is perfectly safe on the skin. I might try another patch in a few months and let you know how it goes.
