Eatawhey’s protein goodies

I’ve been drooling away at Eatawhey’s instagram feed rummaging around in the kitchen to whip up paleo friendly and high protein goodies that are delicious, healthy and satisfying. I was in Bombay for some meetings and Ankeeta Chawla, founder of Eatawhey got in touch and brought in a box of goodies to my hotel. We bonded over our love for IF (intermittent fasting), bulletproof coffee, superfoods like Chia and the fact that we chose weight training over cardio on any given day.

She shared her personal journey with me and went on to telling me how Eatawhey was born. You can read about her journey here with an article she wrote for Fitternity- My weight loss journey

When Ankeeta started to exercise and fix her diet way back in 2007, she abstained from all sugar and dessert altogether. However, her cravings for decadent, yet healthy desserts started to kick in and as soon as she brought regular chocolate back into her diet- her weight loss stalled. This is when she started to improvise with recipes in the kitchen to find something that was healthy, satisfying and tasty. A few years later, after she finished a degree in fashion; she began to experiment with whey protein powder to create desserts, granola and cookies that were healthy and high in protein. Her friends and family started to approve of her recipes as perfecting the art of baking with protein isn’t easy and takes a lot of trial and error. Whey protein often has an aftertaste so finding one that blends in beautifully with chocolate, peanut butter and cinnamon is hard to come by. This is when Eatawhey was born, from a home kitchen in Pali Hill, she started selling peanut butter, granola, almond milks, protein brownies, cheesecakes and some cookies from home in July 2014. She uses almond flour and whey protein for the base of her desserts. For sweeteners she prefers to use either raw honey, zylitol or stevia.

I tried a smattering of her specials and I have to say that they were absolutely delicious. Her blueberry greek yoghurt was delicious. It wasn’t too tart or too sweet and just the right ratio of decadence with the perfect amount of fruit. I polished it off post my pilates session. The chocolate chip cookies with dark chocolate chips were soft, melt-in-your-mouth delicious and extremely satisfying. My favourite item from her kitchen however were the chocolate brownies that were made from a blend of cocoa, zylitol and whey protein with only about 46 calories per serving. Her nutella protein bars that are quite the rage in Bombay among Bollywood’s fittest are about 165 calories with a whopping 16.5 grams of protein. I’ve tried the Quest bars, Think Thin and the Atkins bars and I reckon that these are pretty damn good. The chocolate chip protein cookies are about 95 calories each and about 5.5 grams of protein and really hard to put down. I’m glad I was working out every day on my trip to Bombay because I consumed half my body weight of goodies from Eatawhey and brought more back for my sister to taste. It’s safe to say that I’m a convert and we’ve got so much exciting stuff in store for you in terms of content, collaborations and making Delhi and Bombay more protein and paleo friendly.

P.S – all you Bombay residents, she’s open to raw and vegan cakes and also does a small range of vegan ice creams available in Mocha, Chocolate chip and Double coconut. Slurp!
